Online - Zoom Workshop
This SE™ Legacy Master Class, entitled “Therapeutic Presence, Rhythm, and Connection,” is about the vital practice of presence, connection, and holding space.

In each session, one guides a client through multiple phases of activation, pendulation, titration, release, orientation, and settling. During these phases, what does it mean to be present with a client? How does one connect? How can one know when a cycle has completed? How does one know when to rest, when to move deeper, and when to return to orientation to review the session together? How can one gracefully recover from mis-attunement or a wrong turn? Finally, how can one be vulnerable while authentically establishing oneself as a committed partner in healing?

These questions will animate this uniquely engaging workshop, in which you will dive deeper into your SE practice by exploring the intrinsic rhythms of an SE session. This workshop will be led by Dr. Levine’s Legacy Faculty members Ian Macnaughton, PhD & Joshua Sylvae, PhD, who will illustrate a variety of ways to facilitate presence, rhythm, and connection with clients. Theoretical lectures, demo video review, live demos, and practice exercises will be interwoven throughout this 4-half days workshop to deepen the skills demonstrated in this valuable format.

Included: Faculty will be evaluating Dr. Levine’s demo sessions on video - what went well and what could have taken another avenue…exploring the many paths of SE with your input.

Learning Objectives

1.    Develop and refine perceptual skills and practical tools to create more presence, rhythm, and connection with your clients.

2.    Learn at the Master level how to work closely when shame, defeat, and humiliation, associated with the original traumatic event, replays itself over and over again in the body.

3.    Show how feedback, and support for interrupted defensive responses, can assist therapists to create empowered, patient-focused intervention strategies.

4.    Implement various grounding, centering breath, and body-posture techniques to aid with soothing and self-regulation.

5.    More precisely track autonomic nervous system shifts amongst your clients.

6.    Alternate your approach to working more precisely with different types of traumas.

7. Through triad exercises, practitioners become aware of their own unresolved trauma and how to work with those experiences and apply the learned skills to their practice.

8. Demonstrate the importance of “Bottom-Up” processing versus “Top-Down” processing to improve treatment outcomes.

9. Analyze the effects of stress on somatic and emotional syndromes in clients.

10. Incorporate Dr. Levine’s specialized containment and engagement tools in order to more effectively engage your client in trauma therapy.
  
Legacy Faculty
Dr. Levine is working with and mentoring a Legacy Faculty to ensure that SE Master Classes continue as he slowly retires from teaching. Two of his esteemed students and colleagues aiding in this process are:

Ian Macnaughton, PhD has a private practice in Vancouver, BC, is a Bodynamic Analyst and trainer, and has been a teacher and practitioner of Mind-Body and Family Systems Psychotherapy for 45 years.

Joshua Sylvae, PhD is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Portland, OR who facilitates the SE Professional Training in multiple locations around the world.

Demos Students and Assistants are invited to submit their clients to work with Dr. Macnaughton or Dr. Sylvae during this online course. Inviting your client to be a demo is an excellent way to receive a consultation and it allows your client the opportunity to work directly with a Legacy Faculty member. Demos are an integral way to learn SE. Demos can be SE students if they are not participants in the class. All demos must follow-up with their personal practitioner after their demo.
