We are excited to announce that Dr. Levine will be presenting at the upcoming 5-session virtual event, The Body Speaks, with host Tian Dayton, a leader in the field of psychodrama and addiction, starting on Monday, April 25th.
This special program brings together Dr. Levine's colleagues in the field of trauma to discuss relational trauma, attachment, mind/body healing, and the ways in which they can be integrated into your clinical practice.
This series will explore how the theories of attachment and neuropsychology as articulated by Bessel van der Kolk, Stephen Porges, and Ed Tronick interface with body-centered therapeutic modalities and Tian Dayton’s psychodrama/sociometrics, along with the role-based and parts approach of Richard Schwartz.
This program will highlight:
How embodied forms of therapy extend and complement talk therapy.
What top-down and bottom-up processing is and discuss how they can work together.
How the concepts of reciprocity, co-regulation, and connectedness are imperative to both physical and mental health.
How rupture and repair fit into psychodrama’s framework for resolving internal and external discord.
This exciting 5-session program will offer new perspectives on how we can bridge the gap between embodied forms of therapy and talk therapy.
In each session, Tian will welcome a new thought leader to the conversation to share their ideas through comparing and contrasting well-honed theories and treatment approaches. The program will present perspectives from:
April 25th: Bessel van der Kolk, pioneer clinician, researcher, and teacher in the area of posttraumatic stress and author of the New York Times Science bestseller, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Treatment of Trauma and Licia Sky, CEO & co-founder of the Trauma Research Foundation and Embodied Awareness Facilitator, artist, singer-songwriter, and bodyworker
April 27th: Stephen Porges, Distinguished University Scientist at Indiana University where he is the founding director of the Traumatic Stress Research Consortium and author of The Polyvagal Theory: Neurophysiological foundations of Emotions, Attachment, Communication, and Self-regulation
April 29th: Peter A Levine, developer of Somatic Experiencing® (SE), a naturalistic & neurobiological approach to healing trauma, the founder of the Ergos Institute and SE™ International, and author of In an Unspoken Voice: How the Body Releases Trauma and Restores Goodness
May 2nd: Ed Tronick, University Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of Massachusetts Boston, director of the Child Development Unit, a research associate in Newborn Medicine, a lecturer at Harvard Medical School, an associate professor at both the Graduate School of Education and the School of Public Health at Harvard and co-author of The Power of Discord: Why the Ups and Downs of Relationships Are the Secret to Building Intimacy, Resilience, and Trust
May 4th: Richard Schwartz, developer of Internal Family Systems (IFS), founder of IFS Institute, and author of No Bad Parts: Healing Trauma and Restoring Wholeness with the Internal Family Systems Model
This unique, collaborative program is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity bringing together thought leaders in the disciplines of relational trauma, attachment and embodiment, and mind/body healing in a lively discussion of how these forms of therapy might intersect. Interdisciplinary approaches are not only needed but are what clinicians today are doing. Making these intersections of treatment modalities more informed and explicit seems like a natural next step that our field is already taking.
