After vibrant, exciting classes in New York, Los Angeles, and London, Peter and Betsy have decided to take this dynamic and transformative work to the next level…ONLINE!!
This uniquely masterful workshop will be packed with demonstrations, lectures, and group exercises
Trauma in the Public Eye invites all performers, public speakers, teachers, journalists, practitioners, and anyone else who engages publicly and is interested in movement, breathing, human behavior, and trauma healing. After all, aren’t we all performers wanting to reflect and FEEL our best selves? Just signing into a Zoom room full of people for an online program can be triggering. That wave of fear that washes over, bringing up hints of doubt, shame, judgment, or unworthiness. The hauntings of past trauma hindering our joy. Paying attention to bodily cues and nervous system signals can help shift these states and bring us to a more authentic sense of self-awareness and inner confidence.
During this 2-day Online Workshop, you will explore your inner sensations, motivations, and intentions, as you prepare, execute, and complete a performance or a simple interaction (such as introducing yourself) in front of others on Zoom. You will learn how to safely and actively utilize your unique emotional trauma history along with enhanced body awareness and easier breathing to convey a wider spectrum of feelings and inner sensations. Trauma, when accessed at the level of body sensations can open us up to an incredible yet subtle array of feelings fostering a deeper connection to ourselves and others. Performers are invited to prepare a monologue, song, speech, dance, etc...
For an actor, this brings up the question – How can I make a character truly believable?
For a musician – How can I express the music most authentically?
For everyone – How can I learn to be comfortable with myself as I interact with others? How can I feel safer in public?
Performance is not essential for participating, learning, and healing
You do not have to perform or share a personal trauma history for this work to be effective. The only requirement is a desire to explore and expand.

Review:
The workshop I did with Betsy Polatin, and Peter Levine in NYC was truly unforgettable. The knowledge I learned in one day of that workshop is knowledge I still call upon and use today as a performance artist and in my everyday life. I was blown away at how Peter could get to the root cause of where some of my childhood trauma was stored by asking a few questions and working with me for under 5 min. I was speechless and felt a big release in my nervous system just from that 5 min interaction.
Betsy Polatin is a masterful teacher with a unique background in movement, breathing and HUMANUAL work. As a teacher, Betsy knows the balance of how to lead and give the perfect amount of space. After working with Betsy in just one session, I was able to sing from a much deeper emotional and authentic place. You could hear the difference and improvement in my tone and my body language. Her teaching has impacted my performance skills and helped me understand how to connect and listen to my body.
I can't recommend this workshop enough. Whether you are a performer or someone interested in growing your connection to self, this is the place to be!- Grace Kelly, Singer-Saxophonist-Songwriter-Composer and Band Leader with 13 acclaimed albums, was in the house band for “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” performed at the Hollywood Bowl, and more all before reaching her mid-twenties
*Please understand that Peter and Betsy will demonstrate with a limited number of people each day. They will do their best to work with as many students as possible. You will have the opportunity to learn from watching others and from participating in group work, plus highly-trained SE™ assistants will be present for additional support and guidance during small group breakout sessions.
